Job Title: Medical Assistant / Treatment Unit

Location: Miami

Department: Oncology

Reports To: Nursing /Clinical Supervisor/ Practice Administrator

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $18-$20

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting program or AAMA CMA certification with successful completion of clinical rotations
  • 3 years experience as a medical assistant, with exposure to oncology preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association.

Fluency in English, Creole preferred.

  • Valid US work authorization.

Role Summary:

The Medical Assistant Oncology Treatment Unit supports the safe, accurate, and efficient delivery of oncology and hematology care within a chair-based treatment unit. This role plays a critical function in assisting with regimen-based treatment scheduling , treatment chair coordination, clinical support, and procedural assistance. The Medical Assistant works closely with nursing, providers, pharmacy, and authorization teams to ensure patients are treated according to the correct protocol, phase, cycle, and day, while maintaining high standards of patient care, safety, and compliance.

Responsibilities:

Regimen-Based Scheduling & Treatment Coordination

  • Assist with scheduling and confirming patients appointments according to prescribed oncology and hematology treatment regimens, ensuring:
  • Correct protocol/regimen
  • Accurate phase, cycle, and day
  • Appropriate treatment frequency and timing
  • Review provider orders, treatment plans, scheduling instructions and proper authorization on file (as applicable) prior to confirming appointments
  • Verify alignment of labs, authorizations, consents, and treatment readiness before scheduled visits
  • Escalate discrepancies or uncertainties regarding regimen timing or orders to nursing or providers prior to scheduling or treatment
  • Coordinate treatment chair utilization based on regimen complexity and anticipated chair time

Treatment Unit & Chair-Based Support

  • Prepare patients at assigned treatment chairs for scheduled treatments
  • Support real-time treatment flow and communicate delays or operational issues to nursing leadership
  • Assist with appointment confirmations, rescheduling, and day-of adjustments as needed

Clinical Support

  • Obtain and document vital signs at treatment chairs as required
  • Administer non-chemotherapy injections by provider orders and scope of practice
  • Perform phlebotomy following oncology and hematology protocols
  • Ensure timely and accurate EMR documentation of all clinical activities

Procedural Assistance

  • Assist providers with bone marrow biopsy procedures, including:
    • Procedure setup and patient preparation
    • Monitoring patient comfort and safety
    • Specimen handling and labeling per protocol
  • Confirm procedure consents are complete, accurate, and uploaded prior to procedures
  • Assist with post-procedure monitoring and patient instructions

Patient Care, Safety & Compliance

  • Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to oncology and hematology patients
  • Adhere to infection control, hazardous drug awareness, and safety protocols
  • Follow established SOPs, clinical workflows, and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing competency validation

Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with nurses, providers, pharmacy, authorization, and front desk teams
  • Communicate clearly and escalate concerns appropriately to ensure patient safety
  • Support cross-coverage within the treatment unit and clinic area as operational needs require

Key Competencies Assistant Treatment

Ability to manage multiple patients in a chair-based treatment environment
