As a Member Support Specialist I , you will be the first point of contact for our members, ensuring every interaction is professional, supportive, and solutions-focused. This role is central to delivering on our mission of providing safe, reliable, and member-focused service.

What You’ll Do

  • Respond to member inquiries via phone, email, and web with professionalism and accuracy.
  • Provide support on billing, energy usage, service requests, outages, capital credits, and other account needs.
  • Guide members through EnergyUnited programs, including EnergyAdvantage prepaid, security lights, and other offerings.
  • Assist builders, developers, and commercial accounts with service needs.
  • Use our Customer Information System (CIS), Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), and other systems to troubleshoot and resolve member concerns.
  • Educate members on energy efficiency and programs available.
  • Explain service installation and construction procedures to members.
  • Maintain confidentiality, accuracy, and a high level of member satisfaction.
  • Provide support during outages and adverse weather events, which may require extended hours.

Working Conditions

  • Normal hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (may vary; overtime and storm support required).
  • Hybrid position: remote work with required in-office presence for training, meetings, and performance reviews.
  • Onsite Cash Handling in Cornelius: This role requires coming into the office to:
  • Accept and process member payments via mail or night depository.
  • Complete daily cash sheets, reconcile cash drawers, balance kiosks, and prepare daily bank deposits.
  • Storm & Outage Support: During adverse weather or major outages, you will be required to report onsite for extended shifts to provide essential member support.
  • Must reside within EnergyUnited’s 19-county service area or within a 40-mile radius of any EnergyUnited office.

What We’re Looking For

  • Associate degree in a related field or High School diploma plus 4 years of customer service experience (call center experience preferred).
  • At least 4 years of customer service with multi-line phone and PC experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong phone etiquette, listening, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, handle deadlines, and remain calm under pressure.
  • A flexible, member-first mindset with a commitment to teamwork and problem solving.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged sitting and computer use.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to travel between EnergyUnited office locations as needed.
  • Availability during major outages/storm events.
