Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking full-time, non-supervisory General Engineers, Test Engineers (TE), to work in the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Systems Directorate at Hill Air Force Base, Utah.
The incumbent serves as a technical expert for test and evaluation as defined by DoD 5000.89_DAFI99-103. Occupational Series 0830 – MECHANICAL ENGINEER: Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering degree. Occupational Series 0855 – ELECTRONICS ENGINEER: Typically, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering degree. Occupational Series 0861 – AEROSPACE ENGINEER: Aerospace Engineering degree. Occupational Series 0806 – MATERIALS ENGINEER: Materials Engineering degree. Occupational Series 0810 – CIVIL ENGINEER: Civil Engineering degree. Occupational Series 0801 – GENERAL ENGINEER: Industrial & Systems or Aerospace & Systems Engineering degrees.

These positions are in pay band NH-03 which has a typical 2025 salary range of $88,621 -$137,000. (salary may increase in 2026)

DUTIES (Not All Inclusive)- Manages planning and execution of activities related to test and evaluation (T&E) efforts including requirements verification, test strategy development, risk management, and the evaluation of system performance, interoperability, reliability, maintainability and cybersecurity through tests.
- Plans, organizes, and coordinates test and evaluation activities in coordination with other functionals including program management, contracting, engineering, manufacturing, configuration/data management, test, and logistics.
- Provides expert technical advice to stakeholders / senior level stakeholders on T&E planning and execution.
- Reports progress of assigned test projects to stakeholders / senior level stakeholders.
- Collaborates with prime contractor test teams, the Combined Test Force (i.e., Air Force Test Center and Air Force Operational Test & Evaluation Center), and SPO subject matter experts to develop and execute test activities as directed by the Test Manager in-line with the program’s Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP).
- Leads working groups to resolve T&E issues including but not limited to technical, resource, and schedule conflicts.
- Researches, interprets, analyzes, and applies test and evaluation guidelines, policies, regulations, and similar documents to accomplish mission and program requirements.
- Develops test documents test strategies, TEMP inputs, and coordinates with the Lead TM to provide inputs supporting formal Air Force and Department of Defense approval.
- Coordinates plans and schedules with other organizational stakeholders and multi-service DoD test ranges to ensure adequate test resources are available to support program testing requirements.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS (Not All Inclusive)- Diverse experience in test and evaluation of weapon systems with experience related to test planning and execution
- Experience operating in collateral, sensitive compartmental, and special access program security environments is highly desirable.
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and independently at the NH-03 level is highly valued.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
- U.S. CITIZENSHIP
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret or Top Secret security clearance and is required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
- Employee must meet the education and specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Professional and Scientific Positions: o Engineering standard:
- Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving a “Practitioner” certification in “Test and Evaluation” within five years of appointment.
- This is a Non-Critical Acquisition Position.
